Every day, the average RI fuel imports rise to 393 thousand barrels

Berita gram. Jakarta, Daily imports of fuel oil (BBM) products until August 2018 were recorded to increase compared to last year.

Based on the documents of PT Pertamina (Persero) which were presented at the Hearings Meeting (RDP) closed with the Commission VII of the Oil and Gas Working Committee (Panja) on Wednesday (9/26), the average daily import of BBM products consisting of gasoline, diesel oil, and avtur until August 2018 reached 393 thousand barrels per day (bpd).

The daily average rose 6.2 percent compared to the daily average over the past year which was only 370 thousand bpd.

If specified, the biggest import of products in the form of gasoline products reached 316 thousand bpd, an increase compared to the average of 300 thousand bpd last year. Then, imports of solar oil swelled from 35 thousand bpd to 41 thousand bpd.

Finally, imports were made for avtur oil of 36 thousand bpd, up from the average of 35 thousand bpd last year.

Pertamina's Corporate Communication Vice President Adiatma Sardjito said that the increase in fuel imports was in line with the pace of economic activity that was getting stronger.

"(The increase in imports) shows that economic growth is increasing. Fuel consumption is correlated with economic growth," Adiatma said on Wednesday (9/26).

Adiatma's statement was confirmed by Pertamina's refinery production which also increased to meet the needs of the community.

In the same document, Pertamina's daily refinery production average rose from 680 thousand bpd to 720 thousand bpd.

The largest refinery production in the form of Solar oil is 380 thousand bpd, up from the average of 365 thousand bpd last year. Then, gasoline oil is 268 thousand bpd, up from the 2017 production average of 250 thousand bpd. Furthermore, avtur production was recorded at 72 thousand bpd, up from last year's production of 65 thousand bpd.

In total, the average daily fuel demand up to August was 1.157 million bpd, up from last year's average demand of 1.1 million bpd.

Imports of Crude Oil Decline

On the other hand, the daily average of crude oil imports decreased from 360 thousand bpd to 351 thousand bpd. The portion of imported crude oil also declined from 41 percent to 39 percent of the total crude oil demand in Indonesia, which averaged 885 thousand bpd in 2017 and 909 thousand bpd by August 2018.

The average state crude oil production processed by Pertamina rose from 360 thousand bpd to 422 thousand bpd. Meanwhile, crude oil supply from Pertamina fell from 164 thousand to 134 thousand bpd.

Member of Commission VII, Ramson Siagian, said that the government must strive for faster crude oil production growth. Thus, Indonesia can suppress imports of crude oil and fuel products with a total of almost 750 thousand bpd.

"Pertamina is only processing domestic crude oil at refineries but it is not enough so that it must import BBM products," he said.
