Fuel Consumption at Christmas and New Year Predicted to Rise to 13%

Jakarta, the Downstream Oil and Gas Regulatory Agency (BPH Migas) estimates that consumption of fuel oil (BBM) and liquid petroleum gas (LPG) will be stretched during the 2018 and New Year Christmas season 2019. Therefore, BPH Migas together with the National Energy and Mineral Resources Sector Team Post composes steps to ensure the fulfillment of community needs.

"We anticipate that scarcity (fuel and gas) does not occur," said Head of BPH Migas Fanshurullah Asa at a press conference at his office on Tuesday (11/12).

Fanshurullah estimates that during the 2018 Christmas period and 2019 New Year, the average daily Premium consumption will rise four percent from 31,267 kiloliters (kl) per day at normal to 32,511 kl per day.

Then, the average consumption of Pertalite will rise 13 percent from 47,195 kl per day to 53,864 kl per day, and diesel fuel rose two percent to 42,388 kl per day 43,384 kl per day.

For BBM, the peak of gasoline demand is expected to occur on December 22, 2018, December 31, 2018, and January 5, 2019. Furthermore, the peak demand for diesel fuel is expected to occur on January 5, 2019.

Meanwhile, the peak avtur demand is expected to occur on December 22, 2018 assuming there is an increase in the number of additional flights of around two percent for international flights and 1.5 percent for domestic flights.

In order to secure the supply of BBM and LPG, BPH Migas and BBM distributor business entities have coordinated to increase fuel stocks at the BBM Terminal to distributors. The business entity will also add crew and tank cars to the gas filling stations.

Then, at a point where there are no BBM and LPG service facilities, special services will be prepared, such as 34 Pertamax Kiosk, 16 units of dispensers, 54 bags of BBM bags, and BBM packaging delivery motors during congestion.

Particularly for LPG, BPH Migas will also coordinate with PT PGN (Persero) Tbk to promote hazard prevention education and safeguard gas consumption during the 2019 and New Year's Christmas period 2019.

BPH Migas will also conduct intensive coordination and communication with relevant ESDM Ministry units, the Ministry of Transportation (Kemenhub), the National Police Corlant, the Toll Road Regulatory Agency, and PT Jasa Marga (Persero) Tbk as toll road business entities.

The implementation of the ESDM Sector National Command Post facing Christmas 2018 and New Year 2019 will last for 22 days, starting December 18, 2018 until January 8, 2019. The location of the Command Post is in the BPH Migas Building Ground Floor Meeting Room.

Not only guaranteeing the supply and distribution of fuel and gas, the Team of National Post for Energy and Mineral Resources Sector also guarantees the supply and distribution of electricity and anticipation of geological disasters.
